Grosso & Provence only

Grosso for high-yield essential oil. Provence for the floral-herbaceous hydrosol perfumers prize. No hybrids.

01 — Origin

The soil decides the oil. Everything else follows.

Rows of lavender plants in Paso Robles California chalky limestone soil with morning mist

Soil profile

pH7.2–7.8
TypeChalky limestone
Elevation1,400 ft

Our Paso Robles acreage sits on decomposed limestone at 1,400 feet. The alkaline pH stresses the plant just enough to concentrate essential oil production. The same geology that makes this valley a Rhône-style wine region makes it the right address for high-linalool lavender.

Grosso (Lavandula × intermedia)

High camphor, high yield. The workhorse cultivar for aromatherapy and skincare formulation. Harvested in late June when buds are 30–50% open.

Provence (Lavandula angustifolia)

Sweeter, more floral top notes. Lower camphor. The hydrosol from this cultivar is what perfumers and pastry chefs specify by name.

Hand-cut only
01

Hand harvest at dawn

Stems cut 10 cm below the first bud cluster. Harvested into wooden trays, never plastic. No bruising before distillation.

02

Copper still loading

Fresh biomass is packed loosely into the copper alembic to allow steam penetration. No drying — green distillation captures the full terpene profile.

03

First hydrosol drip

Steam carries volatile compounds through the condenser coil. The first drip of hydrosol is collected separately — highest linalool concentration of the run.
